These large size historic 18th and 19th century map reprints are printed on fine quality parchment or equivalent quality paper in black and white. Most are 18" x 24" in size.

THE UNITED STATES - 1820: Drawn by John Melish in 1820, this full color map depicts the United States, including many of the discoveries of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the newly-acquired Missouri Territory. Indian settlements, trails and unexplored areas are identified, as well as the early road system, and the recent frontier settlements.

THE UNITED STATES - 1862: First issued in 1862 by S. Augustus Mitchell, this full color map shows the large Dakota, Nebraska and New Mexico Territories, the expanding railway system, the Pony Express, and Overland Mail routes. Marked roads include the famous Emigrants' Road, Humboldt-Hastings Road, and the Wagon Road between Salt Lake and California. Forts and new settlements of the west are also identified.

THE UNITED STATES - 1864: This important map by A. J. Johnson locates forts west of the Mississippi, major railway lines, western Indian tribes, trails and the major towns and cities in each state and territory. Useful for tracing family migrations.

ILLINOIS - 1864: Nicely detailed depiction of this populous area at mid-century. This reproduction of Johnson's 1864 map shows both county and township boundaries.

ILLINOIS - 1873/74: Reproduced from Asher and Adams' original 1873/4 lithograph, this map depicts the state during a time of rapid expansion, showing railway lines, cities, towns, county lines, and other important features.

ILLINOIS - 1880/81: This large (18" x27") map depicts the state in great detail, showing villages, post office towns and railroad lines. Useful while working with the 1880 census.

ILLINOIS -1885-1887: This double sheet set, first issued between 1885 and 1887, depicts the state in extraordinary detai. Tiny communities - often with less than 25 people - are shown, as are the county boundaries. In addition, railways, rivers and numerous small creeks and streams are shown and identified. Ideal for use with either mid or late 19th century census records, in both rural and thickly settled areas. Inset shows Chicago and Cook County.
