537 pp. Founded in 1866, the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) became the largest association of Civil War Union veterans in the United States. This publication contains records of more than 32,000 deaths of members of the G.A.R.'s Department of Illinois. Each record includes the member's name, rank, company, regiment or ship,name and location of post (i.e. local chapter) to which he belonged, and his exact date of death. Some reocrds also include the member's age and place of burial. The publication contains records of veterans who served in Civil War regiments from 36 states.
